About Engineered Wood

Natural wood, pine-like stained skinny planks running vertically

What Is Engineered Wood?

A BETTER-THAN-HARDWOOD HARDWOOD

Engineered hardwood is a wood flooring product similar to regular hardwood, that has additional desirable properties because of the way that it is manufactured. Engineered wood has a real hardwood layer on the top and the bottom of the plank, giving it an identical appearance to hardwood when it is installed. In between the top and bottom layers is where engineered wood differs drastically from regular hardwood.

Regular hardwood is solid a solid wood plank, which means it is susceptible to all the follies of wood, like water damage such as warping, easy scratching, and expansion and contraction with variable conditions like humidity. However, in between the top and bottom layers of engineered wood, are layers of crossed plywood, glued with an extremely strong glue that keeps everything together. Additionally to top layer is coated with a hard, scratch-resistant layer. Because of this, engineered wood is much more resistant to water damage, is less likely to expand and contract, and does not scratch as easily as regular hardwood planks. It's also cheaper than regular hardwood, so it's less likely to break your budget.

If you're looking for a hardwood product that won't break the budget and comes with less of the pitfalls of hardwood, engineered wood is the way to go!

WHAT TO KNOW

• Looks identical to hardwood when installed because of real hardwood top and bottom layers
