Porcelain is a manufactured stone-like slab made of a blend of materials. It has been used in pottery for thousands of years, and now has entered the countertop market. Porcelain slabs are not natural stone, so they are not cut, and can be custom manufactured for your kitchen or other space. Once formed, porcelain countertops are extremely heat tolerant, capable of taking about 1000°C (1832°F), so hot pans from an oven, or pots coming off of the stove can be immediately placed on a porcelain countertop. Porcelain is very scratch resistant, with a Mohs hardness of about 6 or 7, and it's extremely durable, so it will last for years.
While porcelain is very heat and scratch resistant, traditional porcelain can be more susceptible to cracking. We offer high-quality porcelain products that are designed to be crack-resistant. Unlike natural stones like granite, porcelain does not require sealing. Because porcelain is manufactured, there is a print layer on which the design is printed, so the design does not run throughout the material, like manufactured quartz countertops, or natural granite countertops.
If you want a long-lasting countertop that look great, porcelain countertops are the way to go!
